The successful launch of the brand’s first electric passenger car in 2020 was followed by the “Urban Visionaries” project. The project provides a platform, a digital hub, where visionaries, like SEAQUAL INITIATIVE can connect, exchange projects & ideas, share experiences and learn from one another. The German importer supports private initiatives that care for the environment and drive transformative change. For example, by financing five tree seedlings for each Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid sold, the company enabled the Plant-my-Tree® organisation to donate 100,000 young trees to a reforestation project in northern Germany. “Aus Amore zur Zukunft” – for the love of the future – is the Fiat mind-set, focussed on sustainability. No matter how small the steps are, they are done to set something in motion.

With the sales start of the new, battery-powered Fiat 500, the German branch of the Italian manufacturer renewed its wholehearted commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility. The new Fiat 500 is not only the brand’s first full electric passenger car, but it also plays a key role in the group’s e-mobility strategy. A special “Launch Edition” model features seats with covers made in parts from SEAQUAL® YARN, a first in the automotive sector. The unique material, certified by SEAQUAL INITIATIVE, is manufactured from recycled plastic. The Upcycled Marine Plastic – technically speaking flakes of polyethylene terephthalate – used by Fiat consists of 10 per cent litter collected from the world’s oceans and of 90 per cent waste derived from sources on land. This innovative process is completed with the application of dyes and environmentally friendly finishes, all produced with minimum use of water and energy.
 
SEAQUAL® YARN was also used for the seats of the Fiat 500 Hybrid and Fiat Panda Hybrid “Launch Editions”, which marked the start of the Fiat road to sustainability. Both models provide all the benefits of an efficient, compact, lightweight mild-hybrid drive train, where an electric belt-driven starter-generator is combined with a conventional internal combustion engine. The mild-hybrid technology is accessible and the perfect solution for people wanting to enter the adoption phase of electric mobility.
